01. Iron core materials for power transformers
As an important equipment for voltage regulation and power transmission in power system, power transformer is mainly composed of iron core, winding and other components. The iron core is the "heart" of the power transformer. So what material is the core of a power transformer made of? To answer this question, we need to first think about the operation process and working principle of power transformers.
The working principle of power transformers is mainly based on the law of electromagnetic induction, the core of which is that a certain value of AC voltage (current) is converted into another or several voltages (current) with the same frequency but different values. It can be said that the entire working process of the power transformer is completed through the iron core and winding. Since the working principle is to rely on electromagnetic induction, does this core need a material with good magnetic conductivity?
However, there are many materials with magnetic conductivity, such as silicon steel, titanium base alloy, copper base alloy, iron strontium titanate, etc., these materials have good magnetic conductivity, why silicon steel stands out, and other materials have not become the first choice for transformer core materials? Because it has many advantages:
1. Silicon steel has a high permeability, which is no doubt, but this alone can not.
2. Silicon steel has low iron loss, compared with other materials, its iron loss is much lower, which is one of the main reasons why silicon steel sheets become transformer core materials.
3. The hysteresis performance of silicon steel is better, and it can shake quickly under the action of magnetic field, so the hysteresis loss is much smaller than that of other materials.
4.Tthe corrosion resistance of silicon steel is good, and it has high corrosion resistance to some chemical external environments.
5. The material cost is moderate, although the price of silicon steel sheet is relatively high, but considering its excellent performance and long service life, its cost effectiveness is still very high.
6. Silicon steel has a certain mechanical strength and can support the winding and other components of the transformer.
