What's The Difference Between Dry Tye Transformer And Oil Immersed Transformer

Jun 12, 2024

Appearance

dry transformers and oil-immersed transformers are well distinguished from outlook, oil-immersed transformers have metal shells, and dry transformers can intuitively see the iron core and winding.

Cooling and insulation

oil-immersed transformers use insulating oil for cooling and insulation, and dry transformers use air for insulation and cooling, which is the main difference between them.

Structure

The dry transformer has less insulating oil, so the volume and weight will be smaller than the oil-immersed transformer and easier to handle. At the same time, the winding and the iron core are not soaked in insulating oil, and are usually wrapped with multiple layers of insulating material, and then a protective layer is added to the insulation material. The core is composed of layers of iron chips, which reduces the loss of magnetic flux.

application

The dry transformer is especially suitable for installation in door because of its fire-proof and oil-free characteristics, and is often used in the place of "fire-proof and explosion-proof"; Oil-immersed transformers are more suitable for outdoor installation, and are widely used in large power systems, such as power grid transmission, substations, etc., because of their good performance in heat dissipation and higher loads and voltages voltage.
