They consist of epoxy resin cast around the windings and core, forming a solid and compact unit. The windings are encapsulated in a cast resin block, eliminating the need for a liquid insulation medium.
2. Insulation Material:
- VPI Transformer: VPI transformers use epoxy resin as the primary insulation material. The windings are impregnated with epoxy resin under vacuum and pressure, which fills the gaps and voids within the windings, enhancing the insulation properties and mechanical strength.
- Cast Resin Transformer: Cast resin transformers use epoxy resin as both the insulation material and structural support. The windings are encapsulated in solid epoxy resin, which provides excellent insulation properties, high thermal conductivity, and mechanical protection.

VPI Transformer: VPI transformers are commonly used in oil-filled transformers, where the windings are impregnated with epoxy resin to improve the insulation and protect them from moisture and contaminants. Cast Resin Transformer: Cast resin transformers are predominantly used in indoor applications where fire safety is a concern, as they are self-extinguishing and do not use flammable liquid insulation.
